The measurement of fluid volumes collected during experiments is one of the few
remaining manual tasks in the laboratory. Now you can discard graduated cylinders
and drainage burettes, and use digiflume to make measurements
automatically from your desktop PC. The device comprises a linear liquid level
measurement electrode in a detachable cylindrical housing and associated
electronics. Choose from 10 ml, 20 ml, 50 ml or 100 ml barrels.
digiflume
has a design pressure rating of 700 Bar (10,000 psi) and will therefore find extensive use
in geophysical laboratories, or indeed any other application where accurate fluid volume
measurement is needed. Wetted parts are AISI 316 stainless steel, fluorocarbon and
Viton. The device can be calibrated for operation with any compatible fluid, or
even a combination of two non-miscible fluids. For more aggressive fluids, digiflume
can be made in other materials to special order.
The electronics are
in a sturdy cast aluminum housing, which serves as a rigid base for the device. The
measured volume is shown on an integral LCD display, allowing stand-alone operation.
Calibration is straightforward and performed with a piston burette and the software
provided. RS485 serial communication is standard, permitting up to 32 devices to be
connected to one PC.
