Process Viscometers

The Magnificent XL7, a Viscometer Without Limits!

Any Fluid - Any Application - Anywhere

The XL7 viscometer is available as a range of standard models, but can also be adapted to suit any special application - all with the same features and benefits:

High accuracy and sensitivity

Simple installation

Virtually maintenance free

Resilient to process conditions

Any tank or pipe size

Any process connection

Digital and analog outputs

XL7 Installation - Fit and Forget

XL7 transducers are designed to work right in the heart of the process.  They are not affected by pipe/tank size or upset by gas or air bubbles.  Installation and operation are quick and simple, and should not require any special training or skills.

No special pipework

No pumps or bypass piping

Any process connection

Cable length up to 3 km

No on-site calibration

Easy fitting.

No Calibration, No Maintenance, No Problem

An XL7 viscometer can be mounted in any orientation and supplied with virtually any process connection to suit your needs.  The instruments require no special pipework or additional infrastructure - simply bolt on, supply power and you're ready to measure viscosity.  Calibration is maintained whatever the circumstances, so no on-site transducer recalibration is necessary.

The HP550 Signal Processor is connected to the XL7 transducer via a simple 3-core cable and provides all display and signals for plant operation. Transducer and processor can be mounted up to 3 km apart; 4-20mA and serial data outputs allow for direct connection with recording and supervisory equipment for viscosity monitoring and control.

XL7 viscometers are frequently used as part of an automatic viscosity-based process control feedback loop.

Any Process Fitting . . . .

Practically any process coupling can be factory fitted to your new viscometer, ranging from flanges and threads to hygienic RJT, IDF and tri-clamp or Ingold fittings.  Simply specify at the ordering stage.

XL7 High Temperature Viscometer

Thermometer High temperature on-line viscometerCool heads, hot toes.  Continuously measuring viscosity at high temperature requires a special breed of viscometer.  The XL7-HT2 model is capable of direct process viscosity measurement at up to 450 degrees C (842 degrees F) without the need for cooling jackets or ancillary pipework.

Special transducers are available for even higher temperatures.

We like to let the sensor get hot.  Nothing affects viscosity like temperature, so the measurement must take place at the actual fluid temperature.  Try and cool the sensor and you'll cool the fluid, leading to large errors. The thermally efficient design of these viscometers allows the sensor to take the full heat of the process while keeping the electronics comfortably cool.  The result is unparalleled accuracy even at the highest process temperatures, with no messy cooling system to bother with.
